Britain to publish list of refugees from Nazis who had property confiscated
The British government has announced that it is to publish the names of some twenty-five thousand refugees from Nazi-occupied Europe who had the assets they brought with them confiscated. The government said it would also be publishing a report on the operation of the special wartime legislation outlawing trading with the enemy under which the property was confiscated. The announcement has been welcomed by Jewish leaders who say they hope it will lead to compensation being paid. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
