Bangladesh rebels agree to surrender weapons next month
Government officials in Bangladesh say rebels from the south-eastern Chittagong Hill Tracts will begin to hand over their weapons in February and complete the process by the end of the month. Officials gave specific dates for the surrender of arms, the first being the ninth of February in the town of Khagrachari. The move follows the signing of a peace treaty between the rebels and the Bangladesh government last month. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
