Hong Kong bird flu toll rises to six

Health officials in Hong Kong say the virulent virus known as bird flu has claimed another life, raising the total number of dead from the disease to six.

They said a woman from the Philippines who was diagnosed with the virus died in hospital of pneumonia complications.

More than a million chickens were slaughtered in Hong Kong last month in an effort to contain the flu strain, which was previously known to infect only poultry.
