Death squad allegation in Honduras

A human rights group in Honduras says a notorious death squad formed by the army in the 1980s is back in action and is responsible for a number of recent killings.

The report by the Honduran Committee for Human Rights says the squad, known as Battalion 316 which was once used against left-wing guerrillas, is now targeting criminals.

The Honduran government has declined to comment on the report.

A BBC correspondent in Honduras says that while the victims may have changed, the tactics are the same: bodies are turning up almost every weekend, often bound and tortured.
