Indonesian army warns students against agitation

A senior Indonesian military commander has urged university students to maintain national unity and resist provocation by agitators, Indonesian radio reported on Thursday.

It said Lt-Gen Yunus Yosfiah, chief of sociopolitical affairs of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Indonesia, urged Indonesian students "to be alert to the agitation of irresponsible groups as well as the need for total reform in all areas of life" .

"College students as intellectuals should not be easily provoked by those wanting to break the unity and cohesion of the Indonesian people," the radio quoted Lt-Gen Yosfiah as saying to members of the Central Executive Board of the al-Wasliyah College Students Association in Jakarta.

He told the al-Wasliyah College students to "consistently maintain national unity and cohesion" .
