New Montenegro President sworn in
The new President of Montenegro, Milo Djukanovic, has been formally sworn into office -- a day after clashes between police and his political opponents on the streets of the capital At the ceremony, Mr Djukanovic warned that the republic would only remain a part of the Yugoslav federation if it was given equal status with Serbia. Correspondents say his comment is a challenge to the Yugoslav federal president, Slobodan Milosevic, who was a close ally of his predecessor, Momir Bulatovic. Earlier, the United States accused Mr Milosevic of being behind the violent demonstration against President Djukanovic on Wednesday night. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
