WHO doctor says no new detected cases of Hong Kong bird flu for 2 weeks

A World Health Organisation doctor says no new cases of the virulent flu strain believed to be spread by poultry have been detected in Hong Kong for two weeks.

The doctor, Kiyuchi Morita, described this as a good sign which meant there was a lower risk of the disease spreading between humans.

Four people have died from the virulent flu and at least twelve others were infected.

Hong Kong authorities ordered the slaughter of over a million chickens and other kinds of poultry to help contain the outbreak. .
