Camdessus calls for dramatic speed-up of Indonesia reforms
The head of the International Monetary Fund, Michel Camdessus -- who's to meet President Suharto of Indonesia shortly in Jakarta -- says he expects from him a written undertaking that Indonesia will drastically speed up what he called long overdue reforms. Mr Camdessus said all the economies of south-east Asia were inter-related and their problems had to be resolved together. Meanwhile, currency and stock markets in Indonesia and elsewhere in Asia have continued a cautious rally. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
