Pete Sampras loses to Kuerten in Australia

Pete Sampras, who has been top seeded in the forthcoming Australian Open tennis championship, has lost to the French Open champion, Gustavo Kuerten, at the Colonial Classic tournament in Melbourne, Australia.

Sampras, who played his first match after recovering from an injury, was beaten 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.

The defending champion, Michael Chang had to withdraw from the tournament because of a muscle injury.

In cricket, India are facing Pakistan in the first of the three-match final of the Independence Cup tournament in the Bangladeshi capital Dhaka.
