Senegal separatist calls for peace
The main separatist leader in the Casamance region of southern Senegal, Augustin Diamacoune, has again called for an end to the sixteen-year civil war. Speaking to journalists in the city of Ziguinchor, he said there should be no more violence, and urged the Senegalese government and his followers to hold talks. Father Diamacoune -- a Roman Catholic priest -- has been living under house arrest for almost three years. His previous appeals have failed to stop the fighting.
