Lebanon truce monitors warn on civilian casualties

The five-nation group that monitors the two-year-old ceasefire in southern Lebanon has urged both Israel and Lebanese Hezbollah guerrillas to try harder to avoid causing civilian casualties.

The appeal came after the committee met for the first time this year at the local United Nations headquarters in the Lebanese border town of Naqoura.

The committee considered Lebanese complaints alleging Israeli truce violations, and Israeli complaints relating to shelling and mortar attacks by the guerrillas.
