Red Cross driver killed in Kinshasa

Gunmen have killed a driver employed by the Red Cross in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

A statement by the International Committee of the Red Cross said the man, Sylvain Mutombo, was shot dead on Monday in broad daylight in a busy neighbourhood of the capital, Kinshasa.

The attackers then stole the car he was driving.

It was not immediately clear whether the attack was aimed at the ICRC or was just an armed robbery.

The ICRC says its employees have been victims of two similar attacks in Kinshasa in the past six months but this was the first time one had been killed.
