Spanish storm crashes oil platform into bridge
Stormy weather in north-western Spain has caused an oil platform -- one of the world's largest -- to ram a bridge, partially destroy it, and cut off road and water links to thousands of people. Authorities in the region of Galicia said heavy winds of more than one-hundred kilometres an hour tore the platform free of its moorings. It then smashed into the bridge leading to the port of Ferrol, leaving the town isolated. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
