Spanish storm crashes oil platform into bridge

Stormy weather in north-western Spain has caused an oil platform -- one of the world's largest -- to ram a bridge, partially destroy it, and cut off road and water links to thousands of people.

Authorities in the region of Galicia said heavy winds of more than one-hundred kilometres an hour tore the platform free of its moorings.

It then smashed into the bridge leading to the port of Ferrol, leaving the town isolated.
