Jobless militants in France call for another day of protests

The organisers of a month of protests in France by the unemployed have called for another day of nationwide demonstrations on Saturday, saying it was necessary to keep up the momentum.

They said this was because of the lack of fresh proposals from the government and what they called the arrogance of the employers.

On Tuesday, thousands of protestors marched through Paris and other cities and occupied public buildings to press their demand for better unemployment benefits.

The protests are continuing to divide the governing left-wing coalition.

The Communists, who are partners in the coalition, have again urged the French government to respond to the protestors' demands and have said they will back Saturday's planned demonstrations.
