Former Mobutu spokesman kills himself

Relatives of a minister in the former Zairean government, Boguo Makeli, say he has committed suicide in Kinshasa.

Mr Makeli was information minister andgovernment spokesman under the ousted Zairean president, Mobutu Sese Seko.

He continued to live in Kinshasa after the rebel forces of Laurent Kabila overthrew the government and renamed the country the Democratic Republic of Congo last May.

His family said Mr Makeli had suffered financial problems in the past few months.
