New Truth Commission enquiry into Winnie Mandela

The South African Truth and Reconciliation Commission has announced that it will call seventeen witnesses to testify again on the activities of Winnie Madikazela-Mandela and her former bodyguard -- the Mandela United Football Club.

The witnesses -- mostly former apartheid policemen -- will be questioned at the end of this month over their own investigations into her activities under the apartheid government in the 1980s.

Late last year, the Truth Commission investigated accusations of murder and abuses levelled against President Mandela's former wife, who rejected them all and did not apply for an amnesty.

If the Truth Commission uncovers new incriminating evidence against her, she may yet face criminal charges.
