New Czech elections in June
Elections are to be held in the Czech Republic in June to find a successor to the current caretaker government. A complex deal involving parliamentary votes of confidence was agreed by the main political parties after weekend talks failed to agree on a constitutional way of holding early elections. The government of the caretaker Prime Minister, Josef Tosovsky -- a former head of the Czech Central Bank -- took over at the new year after a scandal over party funding forced the collapse of the administration of Vaclav Klaus. Reports from Prague say parliament will be dissolved in April for the elections on June the nineteenth. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
