Jordan holds Iraqis over bid to kill diplomat

Reports from Amman say four Iraqis are being held for trying to kill an Iraqi diplomat.

A commercial adviser at the Iraqi Embassy, Rahim Taher, escaped unhurt when a gunman fired shots at him from a car outside his home nine days ago.

A Jordanian official said the suspects had implicated two other Iraqis - including an Iraqi diplomat - in the attack.

At the time there was speculation that an independent group was seeking revenge for the execution of four Jordanians in Iraq in December.

But the official said the motive was believed to be financial and family-related, rather than political.
