Demonstrations in Montenegro against president-elect

The outgoing President of Montenegro, Momir Bulatovic, has asked his supporters to keep up their protests against his successor, Milo Djukanovic.

On Monday thousands demonstrated in the capital, Podgorica, saying last October's election was a fraud and should be re-run.

Mr Djukanovic, a pro-Western moderate, is due to be inaugurated on Thursday.

The United States special envoy, Robert Gelbard, who was in Montenegro on Monday, told Mr Bulatovic he must respect the democratic process or risk the consequences.

A BBC correspondent in Podgorica says the Americans will put pressure on the Yugoslav President, Slobodan Milosevic, who's backing Mr Bulatovic, to stop the unrest.
