Czech election call remains deadlocked

All-party talks in the Czech Republic have failed to agree on a way to dissolve parliament and hold an early election later this year.

The four parties that took part in the meeting agreed on the need to replace the caretaker government of the former Central Bank head, Josef Tosovsky.

But they could not reach aconsensus on a constitutional means of ending the current parliament two years early.

The BBC correspondent in Prague says the root of the difficulties is the complex Czech constitution, but he says the stalemate is unlikely to prevent elections for long.
