IMF and US in Indonesian talks
The American Deputy Treasury Secretary, Lawrence Summers, is in Indonesia to add weight to international demands for the government to show its commitment to drastic economic reforms, promised to the International Monetary Fund. His arrival came immediately after talks between IMF officials and President Suharto. The deputy head of the IMF, Stanley Fischer, said President Suharto had been very clear in his determination to stick with the reforms. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
