New Basque MP's chosen

The political wing of the Spanish Basque separatist group ETA -- Herri Batasuna -- has appointed seven new members of the regional parliament to replace those jailed in December for collaborating with an outlawed armed organisation.

The new deputies will sit either in the Basque or Navarra regional parliaments.

In December, the Supreme Court in Madrid jailed all twenty-three members of Herri Batasuna's national committee for seven years for letting ETA use its television election slots to broadcast a video during the 1996 general election campaign.
