Unions denounce IMF
Asian trade union leaders in the financial sector have denounced the IMF's policies for the region. At the end of a three-day meeting in Kuala Lumpur, they said many of the Fund's remedies threatened to severely deflate the region's economies, leading to recession, unemployment and more business failures. They said the policies could be seen as an attempt to impose inappropriate values, which threatened to undo decades of economic growth, social development and ethnic cohesion.
