Bulgarians have been marking the anniversary of an anti-government riot
Two rival demonstrations have been held in the Bulgarian capital, Sofia, to mark the anniversary of a violent anti-Socialist protest which led to the collapse of the country's previous government. The demonstrations were by supporters of the Socialist Party, which resigned from power shortly after last year's violent attack on parliament, and by supporters of the Union of Democratic Forces, which now governs Bulgaria. Parliament was also opened to the public for the day, attracting more than eight thousand visitors. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
