Islamic body condemns Algerian massacres

The Organisation of the Islamic Conference has condemned the recent massacres in Algeria.

The Organisation's Secretary-General, Azeddine Laraki, said in a statement that the OIC condemned the atrocities, and that such acts were categorically forbidden by Islam and other religions.

Mr Laraki praised Algeria's willingness to co-operate with the European Union's consultative mission and said that the Organisation of the Islamic Conference was ready to contribute to these efforts.

The Algerian massacres have been also condemned by the Pope, who said in his annual State of the World address that those who killed in the name of God were blasphemers.
