Sri Lanka Pakistan trade talks

A delegation led by the Pakistani Minister for Finance and Economic Affairs, Sartaj Aziz, has been in Sri Lanka for two days to meet ministers and members of the private business community.

The BBC correspondent in Colombo says Sri Lanka and Pakistan have been moving towards strengthening their economic relations in the lead-up to further trade liberalisation in South Asia.

Our correspondent says President Kumaratunga of Sri Lanka is thought to have addressed the question of increased Pakistani investment in Sri Lanka, particularly in the textile and garment industries, during her visit to Pakistan last month.

There is currently an imbalance in Pakistan's favour in trade between the two countries.
