Leftists blamed for nine deaths in Bihar

Police in the state of Bihar in northern India say left-wing extremists, known as Naxalites have killed nine people in an attack in the Jehanabad district.

The victims were all upper-caste Hindus and police say the attack was part of the long-running tension between landowners and peasants.

In the same area last month, more than sixty people were killed, allegedly by a private army Ranvir Sena run by members of the upper castes in Bihar.
