Turkish police chief attacks Europe over Kurds

The Turkish chief of police, Necati Bilican, has criticized the outcome of a meeting of European Union police chiefs held to discuss the recent illegal influx of mainly Kurdish migrants into Europe.

Mr Bilican said he had refused to sign the final statement of the meeting which was held in Rome on Thursdaybecause it failed to blame Kurdish separatists for organizing the influx.

Mr Bilican also criticized Greece for using the meeting to attack Turkey's human rights record.

On Friday the Greek Foreign Minister Theodoros Pangalos said the European Union should stop what he described as the Kurdish genocide in Turkey, which was, he said, the root cause of the immigrant crisis.
