Investigations continue into Paraguay toxic waste scandal

Officials in Paraguay are still trying to determine how illegal dumps of toxic waste came to be in the country -- and who was responsible.

There have been several finds in recent days; the deputy foreign minister, Leila Rachid, said some drums contained a highly toxic green liquid.

The country's main political rivals have made conflicting allegations over the scandal.

A presidential candidate, Lino Oviedo, has denied claims by the government that he was involved in a deal to bring the waste from Germany to Paraguay.

Investigators working on the case say they want to get to the bottom of the affair, and that they'll remain above politics.
