Friday, January 9, 1998 Published at 12:36 GMT World: Africa Moi to continue to shape Kenyan foreign policy Independent monitors expressed concern about the conduct of the recent elections
The new Kenyan foreign minister, Bonaya Godana, says the government will not be changing its foreign policy.
He says that smoothing Kenya's sometimes difficult relations with key western donor nations remained a challenge and a priority.
There have been notable policy differences between Kenya and western governments, including the United States Sweden, the Netherlands and Germany, with pressure on President Daniel arap Moi over corruption, human rights and democracy.
Speaking at the first news conference since his appointment yesterday, on Thursday the foreign minister made it clear that President Moi, who was re-elected last week, would continue to shape foreign policy in Kenya
