Clinton hopes for better relations with Cuba
President Clinton has expressed hope that the forthcoming visit to Cuba by Pope John Paul will improve relations between Washington and Havana. Mr Clinton, speaking in New York, said the two sides should have a more reciprocal relationship, with Washington willing to deal more openly with Cuba if the authorities in Havana showed more support for democracy and human rights. The Pope will be in Cuba from January 21 to 25. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
