Thailand suspends Burma pipeline construction

The Thai Prime Minister, Chuan Leekpai, has ordered work to be suspended for at least three days on the construction of a gas pipeline between Thailand and Burma following protests by environmental groups.

The protestors, who set up camp on the site of the pipeline at the end of last year, say it will cause damage to a forest in the western province of Kanchanaburi.

They say they'll continue with their protest until the pipeline is rerouted.
