Indonesia 'starts sending foreign workers home'

The Indonesian manpower ministry is quoted as saying that firms have started repatriating some seventy-thousand foreign workers who are normally paid in dollars.

The ministry said the companies were doing this voluntarily and not under government direction.

Indonesian companies are now having to pay about three times more than they used to on salaries for foreign workers.
