Police say that the man accused of being the Unabomber in America has attempted to kill himself during his trial in Sacramento, California.
Theodore Kaczynski, a former maths professor, is accused of killing at least two people with parcel bombs over a number of years.
Mr Kaczynski apparently tried to hang himself in his cell with his underwear during the night. It was only noticed when he appeared for court the next day without underwear and with red bruising around his neck.
Mr Kaczynski is said to have been depressed in the last few days and has repeatedly asked for his lawyers to be replaced.
Because of the large amount of evidence linking him to the Unabomber attacks, they argue his best defence is insanity but Mr Kaczynski insists, along with the prosecution, that he is quite sane and he now wants to conduct his own defence.
