Canada disrupted by icy storms

As many as three-million people in eastern Canada have been spending another night without heating and electricity, as icy storms have continued to spread across the region.

The hail and freezing rain, which began five days ago, has extended from Ontario and Quebec to the coastal province of New Brunswick, causing further power failures and disrupting rail and road transport.

Troops have been called out to help restore power, after thousands of electricity pylons were felled by the storms.

Ten people are known to have died, several of them from hypothermia.

Meteorologists say there are signs that the bad weather is beginning to clear.
