Voice of Betty Boop and Olive Oyl dies, aged 89
The actress, Mae Questel, who was the voice behind the cartoon characters, Betty Boop and Olive Oyl, has died at her home in New York, aged eighty-nine. Ms Questel recorded several albums under the Boop name, selling more than two million copies. She became the voice of Popeye's girlfriend, Olive Oyl, in 1933 -- a job she held until the end of the Popeye productions in 1967. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
