Anatoliy Karpov lost the final game of the world chess championship against Indian grandmaster Visvanath Anand on Thursday in the Swiss city of Lausanne, Moscow Echo news agency reported.

Each player won three games, meaning an extra round will take place on 9th January in Lausanne to decide who wins the world crown, currently held by Karpov, the agency said.
