Mastermind of World Trade Centre bombing jailed

The man behind the bombing of the World Trade Centre in New York five years ago, in which six people were killed, has been jailed for life.

The man, Ramzi Yousef, was also sentenced for plotting to blow up twelve American passenger aircraft and for planting a bomb on a Philippines Airlines flight, which killed one person.

Yousef, who openly described himself in court as a terrorist, was told by the judge that he would serve the sentence in solitary confinement.

After the World Trade Centre bombing in 1993, Yousef fled the United States.

He was arrested in Pakistan in 1995 and returned to New York.
