Danish police recover head of Little Mermaid
Police in Denmark have recovered the head of the Little Mermaid -- the famous bronze statue on the Copenhagen waterfront -- which was sawn off and removed on Monday night. The head is reported to have been left outside a local television station after a cameraman there was contacted by an anonymous caller. A report on the national news agency said the cameraman filmed a hooded person returning the head. The statue is based on a fairytale by Hans Christian Andersen and attracts almost one million tourists a year. It was cut off once before in 1964. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
