Comeback bid by former Brazil president
The former Brazilian President, Fernando Collor de Mello, has said he intends to run for the job again in next October's presidential election. He said he wanted to regain the power taken from him in what he called a congressional coup d'etat. The former president, who now lives in Miami, resigned in 1992 when the Brazilian Congress began impeachment proceedings against him following corruption allegations. He said he would return to Brazil at the end of the month to begin campaigning. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
