Cuban baseball defector in Costa Rica
The Cuban baseball star, Orlando Hernandez -- who defected from Cuba last month -- has said he hopes to arrange a contract with one of the top baseball teams in the United States. Hernandez -- whose brother Livan is a star pitcher with the Florida Marlins -- was speaking on his first full day in Costa Rica. He and six other Cubans arrived there from the Bahamas late on Wednesday. They'd been told by the authorities in the Bahamas that they faced repatriation to Cuba unless they moved on to a third country. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
