Kaunda's court hearing continues
The former Zambian president, Kenneth Kaunda, at a court hearing in Lusaka, has again denied any involvement in a failed coup last year and said he was being treated like a killer. Mr Kaunda is challenging a house arrest order against him for what the Zambian authorities say was his part in the coup attempt. Mr Kaunda -- who was initially held in jail after his detention on Christmas Day -- says the authorities should either charge him or lift the house arrest order. Mr Kaunda said that after his electoral defeat in 1991 he had handed power peacefully to President Frederick Chiluba, whom he accused of now showing malice towards him.
