Indonesia's currency plunges again

The Indonesian currency has again dropped sharply in value -- falling for the first time through the psychologically important barrier of 10,000 rupiah to the dollar.

Correspondents say the financial markets suspect a lack of commitment by the government to economic reforms prescribed for Indonesia by the International Monetary Fund.

President Suharto on Tuesday unveiled a budget which avoided some of the demands the IMF is making, in exchange for financial aid. The rupiah has now lost well over half its value in the past month.
