Sri Lanka offers sight to blind people worldwide

A Sri Lankan charity is offering to restore sight to more than 100 blind people to mark the island's golden jubilee next month.

The Eye Donation Society says it wants to do something special on the 50th anniversary of Sri Lanka's independence from Britain and plans to replace the cornea of around 50 blind people from Sri Lanka and 50 from abroad.

Sri Lankan missions worldwide will identify those in need and diplomats from the countries which will benefit can attend a special ceremony in Colombo.
