Polish treaty with Vatican set to go through
The Polish parliament is due to decide later today whether to ratify a controversial treaty with the Vatican which sets out Poland's relationship with the Holy See.

The treaty, or concordat, was signed in 1993 by the then Solidarity-led government. But successive left-wing administrations have postponed its ratification, arguing that it gives the church too great a role in the affairs of state.

The BBC Warsaw correspondent says, with a pro-clerical government back in power, it seems certain that the concordat will now be ratified.
