German prosecutors file no charges against Schumacher

State prosecutors in Germany have decided not to investigate the former Formula-One world champion, Michael Schumacher, over a collision with his rival, Jacques Villeneuve in the last race of the 1997 season.

The prosecutors said there was no evidence to indicate that Schumacher broke any laws during the incident in Spain last year.

They had been asked by an unnamed person in Frankfurt to investigate Schumacher for attempted manslaughter.

As a result of the collision the motor racing's governing body, FIA, stripped the Ferrari driver of his second place in the 1997 championships, but did not suspend him.
