Rwandan Priest to be tried in France for genocide

A court in France has ruled that legal action can resume against a Rwandan priest accused of involvement in the 1994 genocide that left up to one million Tutsis and moderate Hutus dead.

The supreme court overturned a ruling by a lower court that French courts did not have jurisdiction over the Roman Catholic priest, Father Wenceslas Munyeshyaka.

Father Munyeshyaka was arrested in 1995 in France, where he fled after the Tutsi-led insurgents ousted the Hutu-dominated government.

Human rights groups said Father Munyeshyaka was a leading figure in the extremist Hutu militia responsible for the mass killing in Rwanda.

He has denied the allegations
