Washington warns against violence in rump Yugoslavia

The United States has repeated concerns about the prospect of violence in what's left of Yugoslavia.

The US envoy to the region, Robert Gelbard, warned the outgoing president of Montenegro, Momir Bulatovic, against orchestrating protests to prevent the incoming president, Milo Djukanovic, from taking office next week.

Mr Gelbard speaking in Washington ahead of a new trip to the Balkans also expressed worries about increased tension in the Serb province of Kosovo which is mainly inhabited by ethnic Albanians.
