Do diets work?

Millions of people across the world will have made a resolution to lose weight in the New Year. And although the desire to slim down can be a worthy goal it can also provide fat profits for the diet industry.

Twenty-one diet books have been published in the UK alone since the New Year but do diets actually work?

Those that fail to lose weight may feel failure and guilt and some doctors say constant dieting can actually make you fatter. And as many diets end in failure is all that effort worth it? Or is a slimline figure the way to true happiness?

When weight comes off quickly, it often goes back on just as fast...
