Chinese minibus drivers stage "park-in"
A New York based group, Human Rights in China, says that minibus drivers in China's southwestern province of Sichuan have held a demonstration outside government offices. More than one-hundred drivers parked their buses in front of the offices in protest over the authorities' decision to increase operating fees by more than eight hundred dollars. Police were sent to area but there were no reports of any violence. Sichuan province has seen a growing number of protests by workers in recent months over grievances linked to economic liberalisation in China. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
